Landscape Characterization / Impervious Surfaces / Use of Data in Land Use Planning

Use Data in Land Use Planning

Use of Data In Land Use Planning consists of two sections: What do you want to know? and Natural Resources. What do you want to know? provides a basic orientation on using the impervious surfaces data made available through this Web site for planning purposes and is directed toward public land use decision makers. Discussed in this section are the decision-making and planning roles played by elected officials and their agents; the types and quantities of information required for environmentally informed land-use decision making; and the kinds of decisions required of local officials. Natural Resources focuses on specific planning topics: comprehensive water resource planning and site planning. Also addressed are tools for natural resources planning and stewardship of natural resources. Natural Resources is specifically directed toward local officials and citizens concerned about land-use, quality-of-life and environmental issues. Both sections contain numerous links to helpful sources of information, including NEMO, Smart Growth, and various state and federal agencies and departments.
