Landscape Characterization / Impervious Surfaces / What are the effects?

What are the effects?

The following pages summarize the environmental effects of increased watershed imperviousness. These effects include adverse impacts on water quantity, decreased water quality, changes to microclimates, habitat degradation and destruction, and diminished stream and landscape aesthetics. This overview provides background information on the images and data available from this site and demonstrates why the control of impervious surfaces is critical to the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its associated natural resources.
