  Landscape Characterization / Forest Fragmentation

Forest Fragmentation

Forest fragmentation is an ecological process that is degrading the forest habitat of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. It occurs when large, unbroken tracts of forest are split into separate, smaller parcels of forest habitat. This process lessens the value of the forest as a habitat for many of the plant and animal species native to the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
