K-16 Education

The purpose of this section of the Web site is to make Landsat images and supporting literature available to the K-12 audience. Landsat images can provide teachers and their students with a means of understanding how their communities make decisions that can impact biodiversity and the climate. In addition, the site also provides interdisciplinary lessons and activities for K-12 students that teachers can use to introduce the concepts of GIS, remote sensing, and impervious surfaces into their curriculums. K-12 teachers and their students have been actively involved in this project through their efforts to collect ground-truth data on land cover throughout the Chesapeake Bay basin.
